Villa Querini Calzavara

Pianiga (VE)

The presence of Villa Calzavara Pinton, formerly Querini, has characterized the landscape of the town of Pianiga for four and a half centuries.

About the property there is sure information prior to 1585. It is a typical 16th-century country mansion of a family of Venetian patricians, the Querini da San Leonardo, which also included a plot of land of about 3.3 fields.

Over time the property took on a distinctly productive vocation. After a very close series of ownership transitions and fractionations of the property surrounding the villa, a complex situation of separate ownership and possession emerged.

Since the mid-twentieth century, the use of the manor building has been reduced to the few rooms necessary for the daily life of a family unit, accompanied by the gradual decommissioning of structures related to agricultural activity.

At the time of its purchase by the municipality (2006), the building had severely damages and collapses. After having accompanied the life of the Pianighesi for centuries going through moments of fortune and decadence, Villa Querini-Calzavara Pinton is now experiencing a season of rebirth and significant transformations, moving from private to public use. The recent interventions will make it possible to ensure the public enjoyment of a building heritage otherwise destined for ruin, restoring to the complex the lordliness in appearance that was its own and the dignity of material historical memory of the local community.
